I sent my very brief 'review' of his book to Christian, who replied: '..he didn't found an alternative union to the NUS - he argued people should stay and fight within the NUS despite its institutionalised racism, but founded the Colonial Seamen's Association to try to agitate in defence of colonial seamen and try and win the NUS to better politics.
