I am currently working directly with a small, leading biotechnology company based in Cambridge. The company are currently going through exciting development plans having recently established their offices here in the UK.

 

The company mission is to transform genomics big data computing and application engineering.  Together, the team possess a wide expertise in bioinformatics, ranging from functional genomics data analysis, algorithm design and data visualisation to next-generation sequencing data processing and quality control. The team are building a universal system for bioinformatics development, aimed to reduce clutter of inefficiency and incompatibility in today’s bioinformatics tools. The organisations current operating structure is a platform for developing, running and sharing big genomics datasets and applications, for pharmaceutical companies, biotechs and healthcare organisations.

 

As a Biocurator, you will oversee the curated public data collection in the company platform this will include maintaining it, performing quality assessments, ensuring data consistency and developing analytical data views. Ideally we are seeking a background in biology, with some exposure and experience in medicine and/or drug discovery. You should have sound understanding of current high-throughput methodologies and analysis methods and be aware of current genomics data standards.

 

Applicants should be able to read scientific papers and have the abilities to communicate well with scientists and programmers who lack scientific background and understanding. It would be beneficial if you have Perl or Python programming experience and familiarity with ontologies, bioinformatics methods to identify RNA transcripts, epigenomics, histone modifications and controlled vocabularies is desired.

 

This position will provide significant career development opportunities. With experience and good performance, the role will eventually become a lead position within the team. You will be heavily engaged in the direction and improvements of the company platform working directly with engineers and analysts.
