News from ISSoTL International Collaborative Writing Groups (ICWG)

Colleagues may be interested in two pieces of news:

·         The outcomes of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSoTL) ICWG initiative held in 2012-13 have been published.

·         There are plans to hold another ICWG in connection with ISSoTL when it goes to Australia in 2015.

Eight papers, written by over 60 participants from 13 different countries, were published in Vol 1(2) of Teaching & Learning Inquiry (TLI), ISSoTL’s journal.  Details of the papers, one of which may be downloaded free, are available at: http://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2979/teachlearninqu.1.issue-2.

It is planned to hold another ICWG initiative during 2015-16 in connection with ISSoTL15 when it is planned to be held in Australia.  The aims of the initiative are:

·         to build the capacity of participants to work and write in international collaborative groups; and

·         to contribute to the literature on aspects of a range of SoTL topics from an international perspective.

The groups will meet face-to-face most likely on 22-24 October 2015 immediately prior to the ISSoTL conference.  The outcomes will be submitted for consideration for publication in a special issue of TLI.  The call for applications to join the year-long initiative is likely to be made late in 2014.  Participants will be chosen to maximise the range of experiences, interests and countries represented.  As with the ISSoTL12 we will endeavour to ensure each group contains at least one student.  An outline of the process and experiences of participants is given in the initial paper of the TLI collection (Healey, Marquis and Vajoczki, 2013).

So if this initiative is of potential interest, please look out for the call in late 2014.  In the meantime we would welcome suggestions for topic areas for the ICWG groups to investigate.
