Subject: [phm-uk: 30] PHM-UK Updates Autumn 2013: Events across the UK, Opportunities to get involved, Tickets for Medact Conference

Dear friends,

Exciting developments are afoot.  With PHM beginning local activities at cities across the UK and preparations underway for the next UK People's Health Assembly in Edinburgh next April, the next 6 months are sure to set off an inspiring number of opportunities for anyone with an interest in community health activism.

Our steering group is forming nationally with invitations going out to leading progressive health organisations to join our working group at a national level to develop the strategy and structure needed to mobilise a movement on the social determinants of health. Watch this space for updates and get in touch (http://www.phm-uk.org.uk/?p=805if you'd like your organisation or group to join!

Below as before are a number of developments both within the PHM-UK network and beyond - make sure to get in touch at [log in to unmask] if you have any other updates, opportunities or developments you'd like to circulate to PHM-UK members around the country and keep following us on Twitter (twitter.com/phm_uk) or Facebook (www.facebook.com/PHMUK).

Until next month.

In solidarity

Anuj, Ruth, Roy, Jonny, Chris and the PHM-UK Working Group

People's Health Movement across the UK

The past several months have seen a number of events for PHM-UK.  In Nottingham on 17th September PHM-UK members held a People's Health Assembly Plus One consultation to discuss ideas for the movement, in the very city where PHM-UK held its first national assembly.  Then, on the 19th and 26th of October, PHM-UK members in Edinburgh invited people to hear stories of how austerity and social injustices were affecting people's health locally, and how a grassroots movement could address this.

Members in Liverpool, Cambrige, London and other cities are beginning to form plans as we see an exciting number of events, meetings, activities and actions spawning across the UK. We hope to hear of more of these over the coming months so please keep us informed if you are holding an event or are interested to do so!

Do you want to support the PHM-UK?

As we develop our strategy to 2015 for PHM-UK we are beginning to look for people to support us at local and national levels to grow our progressive health movement.

At a local level we are looking for PHM-UK organisers who can organise locally for PHM and bring together community organisations, health groups and others with an interest in a platform for health and social justice.  With support from us organisers will hold public hearings giving communities an opportunity to testify on the impact of the social determinants of health locally, undertake consultations to identify key health issues and policies in their area, and contribute to a manifesto for the 2015 elections on health.

Nationally, we are looking for any group or organisation allied to health to affiliate with us to contribute to our strategy and direction as we develop further (http://www.phm-uk.org.uk/?p=805).

We're also looking for active members interested to join our working group which coordinates the communication, events and planning across PHM-UK.

Get in touch at [log in to unmask] if you would like to know more and we look forward to hearing from you!
