Introduction to ArcGIS

Organising Institution: University of Leeds (As part of TALISMAN , an ESRC funded project and NCRM node aimed at enhancing research methods across the UK)

 

Times: 9.30 a.m.-4.30 p.m.

 

Event Description:

This one day course provides an introduction to Geographical Information Systems. The course is aimed at people who are near the start of a research situation in which they want to incorporate geographically referenced data which may be located as points, lines or polygons (areas). Using ArcGIS, we will:

·         Import and display raw data in a GIS;

·         Use GIS functionality to analyse different types of information;

·         Produce maps of results for incorporation into reports.

Whilst predominantly ‘human’ applications will be used as practical examples, all elements are appropriate to a wide variety of topic areas.

Level: It is assumed that participants have no prior knowledge or experience of using ArcGIS but will be familiar with the Microsoft Windows environment.

 

Cost: £30 for UK registered postgraduate students and £60 for academics/staff at UK Institutes of Higher Education (This includes lunch on first day).
