Trevor Craig, an Oxfordshire campaigner, was
today (Friday) given the opportunity to have a meeting about
public libraries with the Prime Minister, who is also his MP.
Trevor reports that the meeting was very constructive and they
were able to discuss issues including escalating service
charges imposed on library authorities, the need to encourage
the sharing of services and technology and the lack of
strategic leadership on libraries from the DCMS, in comparison
to the vision shown for libraries in other countries, for
example Ireland. The Prime Minister showed genuine interest in
the issues discussed and said that he would discuss leadership
with Ed Vaizey. Unfortunately, there was insufficient time to
discuss the issues surrounding the ACL.
Trevor is providing the PM's office with further
information and the Prime Minister has promised to follow
up their discussion.
