The Holy Land in the Italian Imaginary

Literary topos, dream destination, or home for poets, crusaders, friars, pilgrims, tourists, and immigrants, the Holy Land has inspired Italian literature and culture, and has been visited or lived by a number of Italians for a millennium.
Papers that will investigate the creative relations between Italians and the Holy Land from the Middle Ages to the present are welcome from all disciplines in Italian studies (e.g. literature, literary criticism, history, cinema, religion) and can be in Italian or English.
