Would you like to play an important role in Chichester's museum, The Novium, and work with our extensive geology, archaeology and social history collections?

We are currently seeking a museum professional to assist with the development of the museum service as a Museum Assistant. The successful applicant would ideally have a degree in Museum Studies, or similar, and at least two years' museums experience. Experience of working with collections is desirable along with experience of acquisition and accession procedures, the production of exhibition material and working with the public and volunteers. You will be committed to providing exceptional service.

Duties include assisting with the management and care of The Novium's geology, archaeology and social history collections and with the implementation of collection related policies and procedures. Duties also include assisting the Learning and Participation Officer with events and activities when required.

Other duties include assisting with the development of new exhibitions, producing material for The Novium's website, supervising volunteers, researchers and work experience placements, assisting with the regular conservation clean of the Roman bath house remains on display on the ground floor of the museum and to assist members of the public with enquiries, along with any other duties that the Museum Manager may direct.

The post holder needs to be good at communicating with people, whether verbally or in writing, and needs to be able to work effectively and co-operatively with staff, volunteers and the public (both on a one-to-one basis and in groups). It is also essential that the person appointed is fully computer-literate. The Museum uses Microsoft Outlook, Word and also MODES for its collection catalogue, so familiarity and good working knowledge of this system is desirable.

Normal working hours for this post are 37 hours over a 5 day period. The post holder will be expected to work a rota as The Novium is be open up to 7 days per week.
