Hi Samantha
For most purposes the answer is that there isn't one. All the rights responsibilities are defined effectively by reference to data controller's, data processors and these are 'persons' - see s1(1) DPA definitions. They can accordingly be individuals, partnerships, limited companies etc. Any entity which can sue or be sued is a legal person. The technical definition is in Schedule 1 of the Interpretation Act 1978 : “Person” includes a body of persons corporate or unincorporate.
There is a definition of registered company in s70 DPA - which is what you would expect - but that is only useful when that term is used in the Act - which I cannot recall off hand !
