Dear AeG members, I was asked to forward this to you - looks interesting! Best wishes Barbara Smith From: Roger David Cousens [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: 21 November 2013 03:43 To: info Cc: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> Subject: Special, very different, workshop on weeds and invasive plants, June 2014 Hi! I am a long-term member, one of the co-organisers of a workshop high in the Pyrenees next June, limited to just 30 people. In these workshops we try to get a mix of experienced researchers and youngsters, from all over the world. Format is very different to any other workshop that I have ever attended (deliberately so): the aim is to debate issues, develop ideas, initiate new collaborations and write discussion papers. And to have fun at the same time. No dreary lecture theatres, no endless stream of research papers...... I am trying to rustle up late applications, especially from young ecologists. Applications close 10 Dec. We have 10 sponsored places for young European-based researchers within 5 years of having completed their PhD. Other than getting to Barcelona, the entire event will cost them only 150 Euros! That includes food, accommodation, transport in Spain... Everything. More experienced people get charged 650 Euros. We are also trying to attract people who perhaps haven't had much experience in the subject area, but who could help make it a more multi-disciplinary event (eg population genetics, math modelling, social sciences). It's a great opportunity, and a bargain, but (unlike the older researchers: Alan, you may recognise the names of Kris French, Yvonne Buckley and Rob Freckleton, plus we have some of the top agricultural weed people as you will see from the steering committee) so far we have had few applications from the younger demographic. Is there any way of advertising this at short notice to BES members? Details are on our web site http://www.andinallanos.weebly.com Fantastic location, hiking every afternoon, plentiful grog...... We would really appreciate it if you would pass this message on.
