Job Vacancy

Post Doctoral Fellow in Urban Design & Modelling, University of Canterbury, New Zealand

2.5 years Fixed Term

The Department of Geography, University of Canterbury invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship (research). This is a two and a half year position and available immediately. The fellowship is intended for a recent Ph.D. whose training and research is in either: urban design, architecture, planning, geography and/or a related discipline. Good quantitative skills and GIS expertise (ideally in Quantum GIS) are essential. The successful candidate will be part of the Australia-New Zealand Greening the Greyfields research project funded by the Cooperative Research Centre for Spatial Information (CRCSI) with partners from government agencies at national and local level. The project is developing 21st century planning tools primarily using open source software to assist in housing redevelopment, particularly in middle suburbs. There will be a specific focus on how different housing typologies can be incorporated into open source decision-support tools and how innovative community engagement tools can be created. In Christchurch, there is the added dimension of helping in the rebuild of the city following the 2010/11 earthquakes. The person appointed will be based in Christchurch and be part of a new Christchurch focus to an ongoing project that is occurring in Perth and Melbourne. More information about the project can be found at http://crcsi.com.au/Research/4-5-Urban-Planning/4-51-Greening-the-Greyfields
