Really delighted to see the Scottish Government, ICO and the Heads of Planning, Scotland collaborating to provide national guidance on DP and records retention (including web content publishing and offline records). This should be seen as an IRM landmark –engagement at national level with a sector specific representative body really adds kudos and buy in to non IRM practitioners about the strategic importance of information asset management. It should also encourage similar engagement and collaboration at regional and local level.

Paragraph 53 tackles a major cross-organisational issue - where “deleting personal information is not straight forward (i.e. where documents contain other information that needs to be kept or is an integral part of back office databases) – providing acceptability criteria for a “beyond use” test.

I really hope that the Scottish Government have similar collaborative guidance initiatives in the pipeline.
