The National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs) is an independent scientific organisation which drives and funds scientific and technological developments that replace, reduce or refine (the 3Rs) the use of animals in science.
The Centre is the UK's largest academic funder of 3Rs research with over £30 million invested to date. It also has an extensive programme of activities with the academic sector, including research funding bodies, and with the pharmaceutical, chemicals and consumer products industries. The work of the Communications Officer will primarily focus on communicating the outputs of NC3Rs' funded research and collaborative programmes across a range of channels, promoting achievements and impacts to key stakeholders such as research organisations, the scientific community, parliamentarians, media and the general public.

This role will support the wider communication of NC3Rs research during the centre's 10-year anniversary in 2014 and to sustain that level of output into the future.

This is a varied role that will suit an individual experienced in communicating complex and controversial topics alongside a passion for promoting cutting-edge science.

­Based in central London, the Communications Officer will report directly to the Communications Manager. A service level agreement exists between the NC3Rs and the Medical Research Council (MRC). This post will be appointed to MRC band 4 level with immediate secondment to the NC3Rs. There will be no formal staff management responsibilities.
