Dear Colleagues,

Please pass this message onto those who may qualify.

There are two current openings for a PhD student with interest in Microwave Spectroscopy at the Missouri University of Science and Technology under Prof. Garry "Smitty" Grubbs II. The research will initially involve the construction of a chirped pulse Fourier transform microwave (CP-FTMW) spectrometer with a laser ablation source and the assembly of two other Fourier transform microwave (FTMW) cavity spectrometers. After construction, the spectrometers will then be utilized to investigate fundamental problems pertaining to heavy element-containing materials chemistry and interactions.

Highly motivated candidates can expect to have multiple publications, seminars and presentations at both national and international conferences, and a strong background in physical chemistry and spectroscopy by the end of their degree.

Qualifications:
B.S./B.A. in Chemistry or Physics or Equivalent
Interest/Excitement in Physical Chemistry
Programming in LabView/C/C++/Fortran a plus
Experience in Spectroscopy (especially FTMW techniques) a plus

For more information or interest in the position, please contact Prof. Grubbs at the e-mail below very soon. Persons with interest will be evaluated as they arrive, so the earlier the response, the better the chances of admission. Interested candidates are asked to attach a copy of their CV or resume along with their e-mail. Applicants with a recent or December graduation date may apply for spring admission and are encouraged to do so.

Thank You,
Smitty Grubbs
