Subject: MIDIRS

Dear colleagues,

I am sure you will agree that events at MIDIRS have been alarming, and extremely sad. In addition the situation is worrying, in that the information resource MIDIRS provides could be potentially lost.

Because of this, Professor Lesley Page and I have written the following joint statement in an attempt to clarify our personal position with any support offered to MIDIRS, whilst respecting colleagues who left the organisation.

'MIDIRS has been a highly valued resource for midwives and other health care professionals for decades, and we have been alarmed and saddened by the events that led to the mass resignation of respected midwifery and academic colleagues from the organisation.

With these thoughts in mind, we would like to acknowledge our desire to ensure that MIDIRS as a midwifery information resource does not disappear, and to offer support to the team at MIDIRS to maintain the service during this difficult time. In doing so, our intention is not to undermine the decisions of others, nor to be disloyal. We respect the position, and acknowledge the difficulties faced by our colleagues who left the MIDIRS team.

Our commitment to help is entirely grounded in the desire to support midwives and those who wish to use MIDIRS for learning, development and practice, and to move forward and positively influence the future.'

Sheena Byrom Prof. Lesley Page

Yours sincerely,

Sheena
