Durham County Council is inviting tenders for testing, developing and maintaining an interactive mapping website for a First World War Centenary project focusing on County Durham in 1914-1918. This project has been developed to encourage more people to learn about, enjoy, preserve and share the First World War heritage of County Durham.

First World War in County Durham: Commemorating the Centenary through Archives, Objects and Sites is the first stand-alone digital project from the North East region submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). The project aims to link WW1 archives, objects and sites from heritage, community and personal collections to the people, places and events of wartime County Durham. It is designed to help people learn about their own and other people's heritage. Displaying information on a map will make it easier to visualise the impact of the war on local communities and explore the stories behind the evidence that survives. A high level of public participation is envisaged during the centenary commemoration period.

This is an HLF Heritage Grants programme project. The website will be active from August 2014 to December 2018 and will be maintained for a further 5 years.

Details are available on the NEPO Portal system www.nepoportal.org<http://www.nepoportal.org/> and interested organisations will need to register on that portal to obtain details and submit a tender. Completed Tenders must be returned via the NEPO Portal by the closing date of 6 November, 12 noon.
