ISEB Common Entrance Mandarin Chinese Conference – Godolphin and Latymer School, 12 November 2013

We are running our very successful Mandarin Chinese Teaching Conference again this year.

The Conference is applicable to:

-          Preparatory schools that currently put their students forward for ISEB Common Entrance examinations

-          Secondary schools that receive pupils from schools that sit the ISEB Common Entrance examinations

-          Based on the above, those that are interested in introducing Mandarin Chinese into the curriculum

The event, which is free and includes a Chinese lunch, is very well attended. There will be a presentation from the formidable James Trapp as well as Chinese magic to add some colour to the event.

If you are interested in attending, please contact me directly as soon as possible on [log in to unmask]

The invite is below.

Best wishes

Dear Elizabeth,

Great to see you the IAPS Conference.

As you know, I am really keen to show you the progression in the Mandarin at the school – the teacher is very much enjoying it. However, she is a little frustrated that not all of them are completing their homework tasks – whilst it is an after-school activity, it seems like a really exciting opportunity for these Year 4 boys to make some progress and, if possible, sit  Common Entrance Level 1 in 2015.

You will see a graph above which relates to their online activity in Mandarin out of the classroom. We have a Kung Fu belt system called ‘Fu’ which is linked to their online progress. At the moment, we are yet to see anything from Alex Brooke, Billy Campbell, Brian Morris and William Schwabach – any help in giving them a nudge in the right direction would be great.  Incidentally, I had a nice mum  on the phone yesterday – Mrs Boyce Rodgers – who advised me to send through a simple letter which told parents that homework should be done on a two-weekly basis (it takes 20 minutes)- she suggested that this would be very helpful given that it is not a curriculum subject. I will draft something and send it through for your and Lucy’s attention/approval.

Well done to Brendan Bethlehem who is a light brown ‘Fu’!

Hope this helps.

Best wishes

Marcus
