Hi Theresa,

Saw your email to the forum. I think we can help…

I was on the phone with the schools where we teach (taught!) Asset Breakthrough yesterday. The general feedback was that whilst it was annoying not to have a qualification, this could be easily solved if there was at least some form of test/examination at the end of it.

As per my email to the forum yesterday, we are really keen to create an online exam (you might have seen what we did for ISEB – www.e2focus.com/iseb) which could be taken in June and which would be aligned to the current breakthrough curriculum.

I think it is crucial that this is done – because an assessment is very important in terms of students have attainable goals aligned to their studies and also because (as we have definitely seen), it creates a huge spike of interest at GCSE level.

OCR will, I imagine, beat a hasty retreat on anything to do with Chinese (and asset languages!!) and I don’t think anything will be done by them this academic year. We certainly can do something and it would be good to find some time to chat with you. Maybe we could talk/meet up during half term?

Hopefully this is useful dialogue at this stage.

Best wishes

Marcus
