The Bithell Series of Dissertations, which was launched in 1978 by the then Institute of Germanic Studies, is designed to help young scholars publish recent work of high quality which has been accepted for the award of a research degree by a University in the United Kingdom or Eire. Among authors whose dissertations have appeared in the series are Sarah Bowden, Steffan Davies, Brigid Haines, Kevin Hilliard, Nicholas Saul, and Andrew Webber. A complete list of titles is available at http://modernlanguages.sas.ac.uk/publications/bithell-series-dissertations.
The series now runs to 41 volumes, with volumes 14 to 41 also being published in the MHRA’s Texts and Dissertations. Publication is now being resumed by the Institute of Modern Languages Research. Due to the support of the Bithell Bequest Fund, publication in the series does not require a subvention from the author.
Theses for possible inclusion in the series are considered by the Bithell Editorial Board twice annually. Recommendations for theses to be considered should be made by the supervisor and/or examiner(s), and sent to reach Dr Godela Weiss-Sussex, Chair of the Bithell Editorial Board by either 15 November or 15 May, at the Institute of Modern Languages Research, University of London. Proposals must be accompanied by a copy of the Examiners' Report and Abstract.
