No I don’t think its shonky at all! If the role is per annum for 21 weeks that would be correct. I was commenting on whether that would be the pay for a full time role and therefore the role of 35 hours a week. On closer inspection, I think that the pay is £12,336 for the year which is slightly better. It’s just a shame that so many of these great and interesting jobs are part time, fixed term, etc, which can tend to undervalue the skill set that museum educators have (but that's a wider issue/moan for another day!)

The maths I did was £11,337 / (21hours x 52weeks) which is probably shonky, but comes out with the same £11.29 figure.

Which is still not great money.

Although aimed at people starting in the sector, I don’t believe that this is technically an internship position. Applicants do need “experience of working with young people or other members of the public in a school, heritage or comparable environment.” Also, the salary is specified as per annum and not pro rata. If this is correct, I don’t make that to be £11.29 per hour, but rather around £7. When the London living wage is £8.55 an hour, this isn’t great.

I suppose it all depends on whether that salary is pro rata or what they’ll actually be paid.

I make it at least £11.29 per hour which is nearly double the minimum wage – better than most internships. New graduates will probably be jumping at the chance. Bar work for the rest of the week – perhaps in the Palace of Westminster itself which has nine bars, where MPs spend £1.3m a year.

Unless the “excellent benefits” include a life-sized working model of Tracey Island, I think this is an appalling salary for a London-based job (part-time, fixed term too).

Just saying.
