I thoroughly agree with you. I have tried the ‘but they work in normal classes’ and the why cant they sit at the back comments but get nowhere. Then I get moaned at because I need so many venues with Senior Management saying put them in the main room and Counsellors telling me they just cant. No win situation really!

Sorry for the rant – the cupcake I had earlier hasn’t made the day any better and now its raining ☹ Why cant I be an exams officer in somewhere nice and warm – Maldives ideally

Sorry to be grumpy ;-) but .....

NORMAL WAY OF WORKING!

How do these students get taught? Are they put into a small room and watch the teacher via CCTV? Or is it how we train the distributed call centre employees of tomorrow?

Back to making fatuous requests on AAO that it grants but I would reject .......

Thank goodness it is Friday. Bring on the jeroboam of wine that is needed after another week in paradise.

We have a sports hall holding 230, and two larger rooms holding 90 apiece. I could cope with this except for the students who need smaller rooms and those who wont/cant go into the main halls because they wont like it and don't like people looking at them ! - Yes you did read that right ☺

We'll be applying for a whole new campus, just to run exams in the summer....

We've been lucky in that as well as out Sports Hall we have successfully used our main thoroughfare that connects all the college buildings (we call it "The Street") which took 200+ candidates last summer. People wanting to walk across the college had to round the outside! We also have some larger dance and drama practice rooms that hold 115 between them, and the theatre can hold 80, but that's so depressing to take exams in - black walls, no windows. The security was beefed up to cover all the areas, and ensure all the entrances to The Street were covered.

Without using any other rooms, we can therefore accommodate around 700 candidates. Learning Support will take those needing readers and scribes (although they will have to fight for classrooms) so I believe our full capacity would be around 730.

Invigilators for all this? Now that's another problem entirely! We might need to ask for some external (agency) invigilators, fighting with every other college and school in London!

Subject: Summer 2014 Exams

Hi all,

I have just had a meeting with my head of 6th form about rooming planning for next summer, bearing in mind the volumes of students who will be sitting in May/June because of the absence of January papers.

He has asked me to find out what the general consensus is around the country - in particular, when colleges are planning/have planned summer study leave.

We also have a very large number of students requiring WP's, separate or small rooms, readers etc which will also impact on the room availability and invigilation.
I would be grateful for any thoughts/feedback.

Thanks

Karen
