Healthy Urban Living: International Perspectives
Association of American Geographers (AAG) Annual Meeting, Tampa, Florida
April 8-12, 2014
Organisers:
Martin Dijst (Utrecht University)
Mei-Po Kwan (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Utrecht University)
Cities are places where many innovations occur but are also places where problems associated with population growth, ageing, mental and physical disabilities, disease (including chronic and infectious diseases), and other social issues are most pressing. A major challenge for the sustainability of cities and their wide surroundings is to cope with these issues. We plan to organize a number of sessions at the 2014 AAG meeting in Tampa to bring together scholars and researchers form different parts of the world to explore various themes of healthy living in urban areas. We welcome submissions that examine topics including but not limited to:
• Exposure to pollution while being mobile
• Food desserts
• Sports activities
• Physical activity and health
• Smoking and alcohol use
• Healthy ageing
• Health behavior of children and adolescents
• Health disparities
• Mental well-being
• Access to health services
• Disabilities
• Active living and transport
If you are interested in participating in these sessions, please submit a title and a 250-word abstract to Martin Dijst ([log in to unmask]) and Mei-Po Kwan (mpk654@gmail.com) by Friday November 8, 2013. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Martin or Mei-Po. Guidelines for preparing abstracts are available at:
