Subject: Classics Co-ordinator Vacancy - The Sixth Form College - Applications still open
Reply-To: Mai Musie <[log in to unmask]>

Dear Colleagues,

We are still accepting applications for the post of Classics Co-ordinator:

The Sixth Form College, Brooke House

Job Description

Post Title: BSeven – East End Classics Centre Co-ordinator

Scale: 25 - 27 (£23,145 - £27,912 depending on experience). All salaries are inclusive of London weighting.

Reporting to: Vice-Principal: BSeven

Job Purpose:

The East End Classics Centre is a collaborative project bringing together university Classics departments and Classics charities with schools and communities in seven East London boroughs. The Centre aims to increase access to Classics for pupils in socio-economically challenging areas with little tradition of Classics education. Following a successful pilot year, which encompassed a lecture series, study days, and a summer school at Wadham College, Oxford, the Classics Centre has been awarded funding through a London-wide project - Capital Classics - to expand the scope of its work. From 2014, the Classics Centre will run continuing professional development courses for teaching staff in primary and secondary schools; provide curriculum enrichment programmes for pupils at all levels; establish a network of local Classics teachers; and promote the study of the Classics in local schools and communities.

The East End Classics Centre Co-ordinator will oversee the Centre’s activity, build relationships with teachers, pupils, and universities, organise events, and co-ordinate evaluation and monitoring. The role will be based at BSix College, in Hackney, where the Centre Co-ordinator will manage the Library of the Ancient World and be a part of the BSeven, Extended College team. Funding is available for a two year period with the strong possibility of extension, depending on further funding.

Interview date: Monday 21st October 2013
