Dear colleagues,

Over 1000 delegates from over 60 countries will meet in London on 31 October and 1 November 2013 for the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Annual Summit. The Summit will include a session on Openness and Information Integrity, with presentations from:

Dr Ben Worthy, Birkbeck University of London, UK
Jon Håkon Odd, Agency for Public Management and eGovernment (Difi), Norway
Ivar Fonnes, National Archivist of Norway
Dr Justus Wakukoya, Moi University, Kenya
Dr Anne Thurston, Director, International Records Management Trust

The session will be streamed live at 11am (GMT) on Thursday 31 October via: http://www.opengovpartnership.org/get-involved/london-summit-2013/agenda/session/openness-and-information-integrity

Open Government, a key aspect of the international agenda for increasing transparency and accountability of public sector, is based on the principle that citizens have a right to know what their governments are doing and to benefit from government information.

Trustworthy information is at the heart of transparency, accountability, anti-corruption, citizens’ rights and economic development. Trustworthy records are at the heart of trustworthy information. Protecting information integrity is increasingly difficult and increasingly important in the digital environment. Information integrity does not happen automatically.

It is achieved through well-defined control frameworks. Norway’s unique achievements in terms of protecting information integrity and leading edge approach to making documents easily accessible to citizens illustrate what is required and what can be achieved. The Openness and Information Integrity session will examine Norway’s achievements and the benefits for its citizens and challenges for low-income countries.

Yours faithfully,

James Lowry
