College of Medical and Dental Sciences

Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit, School of Cancer Sciences

Biostatistician (Grade 7)

Fixed term for 2 years in the first instance

Starting salary is normally in the range £27,854 to £36,298. With potential progression once in post to £38,522 a year.

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest of the National Cancer Research Institute Accredited Trials Units in the UK.  The Unit is part of the School of Cancer Sciences which includes the first of Cancer Research UK’s major research institutes to be promoted to national Cancer Centre status.

The Unit has an extensive portfolio of phase I, II and III clinical trials in adults and children covering a wide range of cancer disease sites.  The Unit employs a multidisciplinary team of over 120 staff including statisticians, trial management staff, programmers, monitors, admin staff, clinicians and research nurses.  The CRCTU receives significant core funding from Cancer Research UK and receives further funding from other charities, research councils and pharmaceutical companies.

The CRCTU has an exciting position available for a Biostatistician to work on our portfolio of trials.  Biostatisticians play a central role in the Unit, actively liaising with clinical investigators, contributing to the design and conduct of clinical trials, being responsible for interim and final analysis of clinical trial data and having a key role in the presentation and publication of results.  As academic members of the University, Biostatisticians contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The CRCTU is actively involved in researching statistical methodology related to clinical trials and associated translational research.  Opportunities exist for members of the team to pursue their own research interests and carry out postgraduate qualifications.

The successful candidate will be working in the Robert Aitken building which has been refurbished by Advantage West Midlands (AWM) through Birmingham Science City: Translational Medicine Clinical Research Infrastructure and Trials Platform.
