Applies to England only, so apologies to the rest of the world

Also apologies for the liberal use of acronyms.

Does anyone know if there is a workforce planning exercise being undertaken to forecast the number of HSST placements we will need by LETB given the number of consultant grade scientists that will be needed through retirement or re-organisational arrangements?

I have heard a figure of 5 being suggested for the SW LETB but that covers the physical/physiological and life sciences, not just clinical biochemistry

Plus funding arrangements seem to be a bit sketchy at the moment.

I am guessing the route for the HSST’s would be to employ them as AFC band 7 with the confidence the HSST funding would supplement their salary to allow them the supernumerary time to study for FRCPath

Thoughts anyone please.

BW John
