<<CyMAL - Sector Training - Pre-course questionnaire - Using rhyme.doc>> Using rhyme Daniel Owen Community Centre, Mold 17 October 2013 Cardiff Central Library 05 December 2013 This course is provided by the Welsh Government. It is open to staff and volunteers working in museums, archives and libraries in Wales and is appropriate for those working with babies and children under 5. Aim To explore the role and value of rhyme times, and identify ways to deliver them successfully. By the end of the course participants will have: * more understanding of the role of oral language and rhyme in child development and language and literacy acquisition * greater knowledge of effective rhyme time content and structure * ideas for maximising participation and enjoyment * ideas for supporting language and literacy development and wider learning * greater awareness of suitable English and Welsh language materials and resources, and strategies for exploiting them * more awareness of the value of props and artefacts and ways to use them effectively * increased confidence and skills when undertaking rhyme sessions Training Methods The course will be fully participative, with opportunities throughout to share ideas and good practice and to raise questions and concerns. There will be a mix of small group work and plenary sessions. Pre course preparation Delegates are requested a) to complete the attached questionnaire and send it to [log in to unmask] (do not worry if you have little or no experience of this area of work) b) to prepare a rhyme with appropriate props to deliver in a supportive environment during the course. Accreditation Delegates may use this course towards Agored Cymru accreditation for YMCA Wales Community College unit GA32CY022, 'Working with babies and young children and their families to encourage language development through rhyme'. This will require follow-up work, including delivery of rhyme sessions, and completion of a workbook. Trainer Anne Harding is an independent trainer. She specialises in children's and young people's reading and children's and school libraries.
