Hi Duncan

That’s really helpful.  They are too expensive to buy if no one can understand the voice – perhaps I will just stick to our current method.  Just seems a bit of a waste to have people sitting in a room for an hour or two (normally two as most have extra time as well) when the student’s don’t ask for any help to read anything.

Perhaps in another couple of years they will have perfected the voice a bit more.

Hi Anna

We have had exactly the same experience as Lorna. I had a play - sorry, did an in depth analysis - of one and found that I couldn't understand the voice which sounded like an early version of the one used by Stephen Hawking and that frankly I'd prefer a human being. In the same way as everything else, how would we ever get this to become the students "normal way of working"?

Hi Anna

We liked the look of them and spoke to our ALS team about them - they said that they had a few of an older version but students just didn't use them.

Regards

Lorna

Subject: Reading Pen

Hi

Been away for a couple of days and just picked up my JCQ stationery box - not too sure about orange but I think that subject has been exhausted.

Reading Pens - has anyone tried them - do they work/are they worth the money?   Do students need to practice using them beforehand/ has anyone tried to get a sample first before ordering?

I think it sounds a really good idea but I will have to sell this to my SENCO first

Thanks for your help

Anna
