Bioinformatics, Biomedecine and Neuroscience represent a great challenge for optimization methods as many problems arizing in these fields can be modelized as large size optimization problems. For example, many bioinformatics problems deal with the manipulation of large sets of variables (SNPs, genes, GWA, proteins ...). Hence, looking for a good combination of these variables require advance search mechanisms. In biomedecine (or medical biology), such optimization problems may also be found by studying molecular interactions. Solving such difficult combinatorial optimization problems require to incorporate knowledge about problems to be solved.

This special session aims at putting together works in which optimization approaches and knowledge discovery are jointly concerned to solve problems coming from bioinformatics, biomedecine and neuroscience.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Papers on all topics related to the session's themes are solicited.

Submission Details
Prospective authors should submit papers via the online submission system of LION 8. Authors are advised to be careful when selecting a paper category.
The paper categories for LION-BIO are
(1) LION-BIO: Long paper: original novel and unpublished work (max. 15 pages in LNCS format);
(2) LION-BIO: Short paper: an extended abstract of novel work (max. 4 pages in LNCS format);
(3) LION-BIO: Work for oral presentation only (no page restriction; any format). For example, work already published elsewhere, which is relevant and which may solicit fruitful discussion at the conference.

In addition, an e-mail message including paper Id, title of paper, author's names, and abstract must be sent to: laetitia.jourdan[[at]]lifl.fr, clarisse.dhaenens[[at]]lifl.fr

All accepted papers (both long and short) will be published in a volume of the series on Lecture Notes in Computer Science from Springer after the conference.
