REFERENCE NO. 945/0612

At the University of Sydney, our visionary thinking is turning research and scientific discoveries into solutions that transform lives around the world.

Our people at the new Charles Perkins Centre are using the University's internationally recognised academic credentials to ease the global burden of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Through a unique collaboration of academics, we are building a new understanding of these metabolic conditions to improve health, treatment and health outcomes in Australia and worldwide.

To contribute to this important work, the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery is seeking a scholar of international distinction.

The vision of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery (also known as Sydney Nursing School) is to create and sustain a vibrant environment of engaged enquiry of the highest quality and impact; one which emphasises the indivisibility of research, education, practice and policy. The purpose of our engaged enquiry is the advancement of health and wellbeing at all levels. The faculty sits within the University of Sydney's Division of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy. Staff and students are enabled to experience inter-professional collaboration as part of a strong research community. The focus of scholarship in the faculty is to improve health, the quality of care, and the health-related experience of people at times of vulnerability. The faculty is increasing capability for research leadership in key areas identified by the University of Sydney Health and Medical Research Strategic Review - chronic disease (obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease); cancer; mental health; immunity and infection. These key areas are also faculty research priorities and complement our existing research strengths in midwifery and women's health; palliative care; ageing; acute, critical and trauma care.

As Professor/Associate Professor of Nursing at the Charles Perkins Centre you will have leadership and representational responsibilities in forming, developing and maintaining links between the faculty and the Charles Perkins Centre by leading research in chronic diseases, specifically obesity, diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Applications from candidates with expertise in any of these areas, or related areas, are welcome.

To be successful, you will hold a doctorate in nursing or closely related discipline.

The position is full-time continuing, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees.

Level of appointment and responsibility will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
