Training in a Cold Climate

A Roundtable Discussion on the Present and Futures of Performer Training

30th October 2013 - 3:30 -7:00 pm, Alec Clegg Studio, stage@leeds

Hosted by School of Performance and Cultural Industries, University of Leeds in collaboration with Theatre, Dance and Performance Training Journal.

What is the role of performer training today? What is the relationship between the economic and social contexts in which training is taking place and the existing artistic and professional structures? (How) can training become a site for experimentation and foster change?

By bringing together a diverse number of luminaries involved in different areas of arts-related training, this roundtable will offer an opportunity to present individual and institutional perspectives on how recent developments have affected the vision and running of performing arts training programmes, to exchange information on existing and emerging models for the incubation and professionalization of new artists, and to debate the vision(s) and aims that may inform future endeavours.

Participants include:
Alison Andrews, A Quiet Word
Catherine Alexander, the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama
Kylie Walsh, Paper Birds Theatre Company
Matt Hargrave, University of Northumbria
Struan Leslie. The Royal Shakespeare Company
Tom Cornford, University of York

The event will be chaired by TDPT editors, Prof Jonathan Pitches and Dr Simon Murray and there will be an informal reception afterwards with wine and nibbles.

All welcome but booking is essential as places are limited.

Please RSVP to Linda Smith: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
