I know what you mean. I have an MSc in Information Governance - you won't
believe the nerd rating I achieve from that.

I do need to do the DPA qualification though and wonder if there would be
mileage in some sort of regular "refresh" for those that have the
qualification. For example, after two years a short (inexpensive) formal
update? Maybe open to others, like myself, with a formal connected
qualification?

Just a thought.

Simon Howarth.

The ISEB looks very good on the CV although it does increase the "nerd"
rating by a considerable amount. Luckily for me my Records Management
qualification out "nerds" the DP ISEB by a huge amount.

I agree Lawrence - having sat the exam 10 years ago - but as the saying
goes, you learn something new every day. Recently some of my colleagues sat
the DP Exam and I went along for the training and it helped me with a few
issues and made me aware of other ways in which to deal with matters.

Doreen

Has anyone done any research on whether people who are on the JISCmail do
better, statistically, than those who are not (at the time of the course) on
JISCmail?

I passed mine as a result of the excellent course and instructors.

If you work in data protection, I strongly recommend that you seek out a BCS
qualification.

I was involved within DPA for 8 years before I took the course and I found
there was a lot of stuff I learned as well as a few things I had to unlearn
so that I could apply the legislation appropriately.

Even with the BCS qualification and the 8 years experience, I would still
say there is a lot to the Act I do no know (as I demonstrate quite regularly
on this list :)) and I appreciate the course as a platform for further
learning.

Best,

Lawrence

Congratulations to all those who passed the BCS (ISEB) Data Protection
course. Most people seem to have done very well.
