Science Community Development Officer

Salary Range:  £17,000 - £18,000

 

Satrosphere Science Centre is looking for an outstanding science communicator to enhance and expand our public and community education programme and reach and engage new audiences.  You will be an enthusiastic and creative team player, with a passion for science learning and the desire to contribute to the creation of a world class education programme.

 

You will be responsible for developing, coordinating and delivering high quality science and technology experiences for community and public audiences, in line with Satrosphere Science Centre’s key aims and local and national government initiatives and priorities.  You will play an important role in networking and relationship building with key stakeholders and partners (existing and new) to ensure Satrosphere Science Centre grows as a hub for public engagement with cutting edge science and technology.  You will be responsible for audience research and liaison to ensure the development and delivery of appropriate and relevant programmes, projects, opportunities and experiences that match the interests, needs and concerns of the local community.  You will represent Satrosphere Science Centre in a range of collaborative projects and will coordinate community-led projects and activities.  Other duties will include delivery of education programmes for all ages as well as Duty Management for the visitor attraction, as required. 

 

Education to degree level or equivalent in a relevant (science, education, community or social work) subject area is essential.  Leadership, organisational skills and time management are essential requirements of the post holder, as is experience of networking and event/project coordination.  Experience in delivering high quality learning activities and working in a science centre is desirable.  Possession of a driving licence is desirable and advantageous. 

 

The position of Science Community Development Officer is full time (37.5 hours per week, any 5 days from 7).  Occasional weekend and evening work will be required.  Full training will be given and personal development opportunities are available.
