Asbestos in Museum Collections, Awareness and Management Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales, Cardiff 25 October 2013 This course is provided by the Welsh Government. It is open to staff and volunteers working in museums, archives and libraries in Wales. This course is suitable for museum employees and volunteers who are liable to come into contact with museum items which could potentially contain asbestos. Aim The main aim of the course is to make attendees aware of the dangers associated with unknowingly coming into contact with asbestos, a material which may be contained within some museum items. By the end of the course participants will have an understanding of the uses of asbestos and how to treat museum exhibits which contain asbestos to avoid exposure to asbestos fibres. Training Methods The course will be delivered using PowerPoint presentations with time being allowed for discussion of salient points, particularly where delegates have concerns. A certificate of attendance will be provided for CPD purposes. Preparation No pre-course preparation is necessary Trainer Denis Morgan CChem MRSC PGDip CoCA Denis is the Divisional Technical Manager for ESG Asbestos Limited and has responsibility for training, both for internal and external candidates. He is a Chartered Chemist who has specialised in analytical chemistry with the past thirteen years being involved with asbestos related work. He is a member of the British Occupational Hygiene Society and has been involved with running their various Proficiency Module courses and the Specialist Module on 'Asbestos and Other Fibres'. Currently he is actively involved with various committees covering proficiency testing and also asbestos in soils and aggregates.
