Teaching Fellow(s), Film Programme, Fixed term,

Applications are invited for one or more fixed-term Teaching Fellows to teach 1-3 courses in 2014: one 200-level course on Film Histories and one 300-level course on Film Industries, Institutions and Cultures (both Trimester one; February-June) and one 200 level course (Film Theory) in Trimester two (July-November). The short-term contract(s) will cover either one or both of the trimesters. The appointed staff will be coordinating, lecturing, assessing, tutoring and supervising tutors, and working with colleagues in the programme. The successful applicant(s) will have a postgraduate qualification in film or a related area, and tertiary teaching experience will be an advantage. Applicants are encouraged to propose their own courses in areas of specialty that might fall within Victoria’s film courses. These positions are especially well-suited for new PhD graduates looking for teaching experience. Relocation costs will not be available for applicants.

Brief information about the courses are below, but candidates are also encouraged to propose other topics within their specialty research areas:
FILM 201 Critical Approaches to Film Studies: This course involves a survey of the significant theoretical approaches that inform Film Studies. Topics will vary from year to year but may include realism, formalism, semiotics, narratology, psychoanalysis, phenomenology, and/or postmodernism.
FILM 204 Film Histories: This course investigates a specific period or type of film history. It will situate cinema in a particular historical context and examine historiographical approaches in Film Studies.
FILM 307 Film Industries, Institutions, and Cultures: The course focuses on the field of film in its cultural, institutional and industrial contexts. This may include consideration of cinema as industry; the cultures and practices of film and related creative industries; or the role and influence of cultural policies and institutions.
