This is a national trend, a Google search found these authorities which have already banned access: Plymouth, Cheshire East Cheshire West and Chester, Haringey, Edinburgh, Dundee, Midlothian, Northamptonshire, Liverpool, Wirral, Knowsley. Here in St Helens, some of our councillors have asked Libraries to investigate blocking access, and we are keen to establish a consensus, if possible, with what other library services are doing. I recall a few weeks ago some emails on this list on the subject of public access to Payday loan websites through library computer facilities. Colleagues from both Cheshire East and Rochdale very kindly shared lists of sites blocked in their respective authorities. The subject rumbles on, with several more authorities either banning these websites, or looking into doing so.
