No, you're right John...maybe not!

But I still love LIPs.

I suspect the problem is LIP is already taken & thus could not be branded

I would love it if was LIPs! I think it's saucy and fun much more reflective of our work! It's refreshing and catchy and I like the connection to LIPs and sssshhhhh...

I don't feel that ILPUK is an improvement to CILIP. It makes me feel a bit like I have something stuck in my throat...?

I also thought one of the reasons for changing the name was that the media and public did not understand what CILIP meant.  What price ILPUK!

wasn't one of the arguments for changing the name from CILIP that "it's hard to pronounce"? like, "ILPUK" isn't?

if it does turn out to be LIPS, will the organisation get sponsorship from a cosmetics company? will we all get specially branded lipstick or lip gloss freebies (men included, of course), and will there be a Botox booth at the next AGM? will our new slogan be "mwah, mwah, dahling?"

I have just ben chatting to my husband, who years ago did a lot of work for the then LA, and may have been involved when it was CILIP.

When I told him the new name, the fact the acronym is in use already and that the web site has already been re launched under CILIP, he almost fell off his seat laughing.

He wondered why CILIP had time for such things when it seemed to be in a state, and why such an unattractive acronym (Wait till Private Eye gets to hear) was chosen.

He said how much fun and what a change of perception could have been gained for going for LIPS. My imagination ran riot as we could have totally change how the world perceives us.
