Subject: FW: New name for CILIP

Ok, although I am not a member of CILIP and rather against my better judgement, I am going to weigh in here...

I noticed on one of the earlier emails that the person's title was Knowledge, Information and Library Manager - if you put Professional instead of Manager you get the acronym KLIP, which covers all the bases and I think looks quite modern and funky, because of the K.

Anyway, that is my twopennorthworth.

You are right, and one can think of many more examples., it’s a good idea, but our colleges who are not public librarians but work in Law firms, Medical associations etc could do with a better name than LA, but not ILPUK!

Organisations can have working names for aspects of their activities.  Comic Relief isn't a charity, for example, it is the trading name of an organisation called Charity Projects.  English Heritage is actually the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England.  We (yes, I am a member) could use the Library Association as a working name if we wished, regardless of the title of the organisation.

I don't think ILPUK is any significant improvement over CILIP.  It certainly isn't easier to say, which is supposed to have been one of the reasons for a change.
