Or possibly you don’t subscribe to the other list that they are sending to and so only get the one of the emails, I can’t imagine people don’t understand what it means and so put it on regardless

What is also odd is why people apologise when they haven't done so. Maybe there's an e-mail for dummies book that says that every e-mail to a list should start thus
