In HBSMR the Maritime Craft Type thesaurus is available when recording using the Maritime tab, as Rob pointed out.

Normally this is configured to appear for records flagged as Maritime with the “Record Type”.  Please contact us off-list if you want any help with this.

 

As Rob also noted, there has been discussion as to whether it would be better to just allow the Maritime Craft Type thesaurus to be used to index Monument Types, removing this differentiation between the way we index wrecks and other monuments.   The rest of the Maritime tab would remain, for recording all the stuff that is relevant only for wrecks (cargo, port of registration, etc).

Thanks for your responses. We have all our maritime records as wrecks but if someone comes in asking for a submarine, we have no way of differentiating them and its local knowledge of them that is being relied upon.

 

Forgive me if I am getting the wrong end of the stick, but it seems EH have a thesaurus term for submarine under Maritime Craft type but we don’t have access to it? Or is it just HBSMR users? I’m a little confused!

The Monument Term will be wreck http://thesaurus.english-heritage.org.uk/thesaurus.asp?thes_no=1 the Maritime Craft Type is a separate thesaurus and the term from this will be submarine http://thesaurus.english-heritage.org.uk/thesaurus.asp?thes_no=143
