Job Title: Lead Geophysicist (Staff)

Location: Aberdeen

Job Description:

The role comprises delivering high quality technical work as part of the
Exploration Team. It is expected that a Lead Geophysicist will be
capable of independent work requiring a minimum of supervision. 

A Lead Geophysicist will contribute to project scoping, execution and
quality assurance working both independently and under the supervision
of senior members of the consultancy on more complex projects. Will have
knowledge of the complete exploration life cycle and be developing
experience primarily through the application of geophysical skills. Must
be prepared to work as part of an integrated team demonstrating
excellent communication with other disciplines and business teams. 

All members of the Exploration Team are expected to offer proactive and
enthusiastic support to other teams within Senergy based on business
requirements. Exploration Team members will also be expected to
proactively support the team aspiration and deliver in line with the
objectives outlined in the business plan. These behaviours will be
consistently maintained whilst involved in client-oriented projects and
in support of Senergy-oriented initiatives. 

Primary Function:

Delivery of high quality geophysical studies, with minimum supervision,
in line with project objectives. 

Understand technical objectives and contribute to project scoping. 

Mentor and provide guidance to other members of the consultancy. 

Support business development through agreed procedures. 

Proactively support the business through enthusiastic participation in
non-billable initiatives. 

Demonstrate behaviours which reflect the Senergy values of Innovation,

Provide technical input to support other teams or business units within
Senergy. 

Work within Senergy SIMS and QA/QC procedures

Desired Skills & Experience:

Technical Focus 

The Exploration Team is involved in all aspects of the exploration value
chain. A Lead Geophysicist will have, or be acquiring, knowledge through
project work, personal development and training of all aspects of the
exploration value chain including regional studies, prospectivity
generation, evaluation and discovery. Specific tasks will include: 

Geophysical evaluation projects from regional assessment in frontier
areas to detailed prospect and appraisal analysis. 

2D and 3D seismic interpretation and mapping incorporating synthetic
generation, attribute analysis, rock physics studies, velocity modelling
and depth conversion. 

Lead and prospect generation and evaluation including calculation of
volumetrics and risk assessment. 

Provide agreed input into related studies focusing on areas such as
basin modelling, play fairway analysis, reservoir prediction and
structural evaluation. 

Qualifications

Satisfying at least one from either of the following categories: 

A degree in Geology or Geophysics 

An MSc in Petroleum Geology or Geophysics or a relevant PhD 

Technical Skills 

Good spoken and written English 

Competence in a number of these key areas of geophysics: 

3D & 2D structural interpretation 

Synthetic generation and VSP analysis 

Seismic sequence stratigraphy 

Attribute analysis 

Velocity modelling and depth conversion 

AVO and inversion techniques 

Prospect generation and evaluation 

Volumetrics and risking 

Non-seismic methods 

Understanding of integrated projects with knowledge of geoscience
principles and techniques including: 

Basin development and geological processes 

Play fairway mapping 

Well data interpretation and analysis 

Basic knowledge of petrophysical methods 

Able and willing to operate independently in a Senergy or client
environment. 

Able and willing to deliver technical presentations to Senergy staff and
to clients. 

Able and willing to work within an integrated team to deliver to a
common goal. 

Competent user of at least one standard seismic interpretation package,
eg Landmark Suite, Petrel, Kingdom.

this role is suited to an individual who understands the consultancy

requires the ability to effectively multi-task and manage time
efficiently, especially as you may be required to work on multiple

company at all times, including times when not working on a specific
technical project.
