Dear Kayleigh

Self-adhesive vinyl 'transfers' are the stock-in-trade of most signwriting companies these days. In Greenwich you should be able to find a reliable company to do this for you within five miles of your doorstep just by looking in 'Yellow Pages', or on 'Yell', the online equivalent. Such companies will require artwork submitting electronically, usually as a jpeg or pdf.

Try sending selected companies a sample piece of artwork to obtain like-for-like quotes. This will give a feel for both how competitively priced they are, and what they are like to deal with, as the cheapest aren't always the best. Explain to them what you are trying to do and take their advice on, for instance, preparing the wall for the transfers.

If you're looking to have large transfers, ask them to quote for supply and fixing - getting large transfers stuck down smoothly is a bit of an art, and its worth paying an expert to do it at least once (and watching the expert like a hawk while they're doing it) before trying to do it yourself. And if the 'expert' makes a mess of the job they, not you, have to pay for a new transfer.

You might find that some local companies will, if tactfully approached, either offer to do this work for nothing, or at a greatly reduced price, in return for an acknowledgement of their sponsorship for this work...

Hope this helps

Cheers

Richard.

Morning Gemmers!

We’re revamping part of our exhibition space as a children’s play area and we’d like to have some vinyl transfers printed to add to the walls. Obviously we’d like to keep the costs down as much as possible! Can anyone recommend any good companies? Happy to share replies.

Many thanks,
