[Un]luckily I have not see one of these emails but may well be a breach of PECR ( depends whether you have previously given and forgotten about giving consent) and therefore not 'legal'. Doesn't sound as if they can use the soft opt-in on you, but if they can the requirement is not to have an email link as such, but only a 'simple means of refusing' future communications. Again without sight of such an email I have no idea if they provide / mention this

 

But of course they conveniently hide the fact that they are a totally private company (PARTNERSHIP MEDIA GROUP LIMITED) - a fact which is not visible anywhere I can see on their website which seems to breach nearly every requirement of the Companies (Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2008 : http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2008/495/regulation/7/made so I guess compliance is not necessarily their strong point.
