Dear All,
I find this an interesting conversation yet one that looks narrowly at the issue.  Consider what is already made publicly available as part of the national negotiations over pay scales. The NCJ payscales are published regularly, here is the one that is currently in effect.

As for finding out average salaries of similar positions, consider this site (there are others but this is the first I found).

There is a wealth of information and context already published. I agree that pay bands are the guidance and fit with lower level employees and specific salaries are set out by statutory instruments.
