Postdoctoral Research Position Identification of a novel metabolic regulator of AMPK Astrazeneca, Alderley Park, England Application Procedure: For full details and application please visit: http://gs.globalsuccessor.com/fe/tpl_astrazenecav2.asp?newms=jj&id=59972 Post Summary: Applications for a Post-Doctoral position in structure and biophysics primarily located at Astrazeneca in Alderley Park, Cheshire, England are invited. AMPK (AMP activated Kinase) is a key regulator of adenine nucleotide levels and has been implicated as a target in a number of diseases in diabetes, oncology and neuroscience. Our goal is to continue development and use biophysical and structural tools to characterize metabolites that regulate AMPK. We aim to use these studies to identify a putative novel metabolic regulator and further improve understanding of the mechanisms controlling AMPK activity. Person Specification: The candidate should have a Ph.D. in protein engineering (ie. construct design, molecular biology, protein expression and purification) and either protein biophysics or protein crystallography. Academic Supervisor: Steve Gamblin is acting as the academic supervisor. The work is part of an on-going collaboration between Astrazeneca and Prof. Steve Gamblin and Prof. Dave Carling from the MRC. (Carling et al. Biochem. J. 2012, Xiao et al, Nature 2011, Xiao et al, Nature 2007). The applicant's PhD or Post-Doctoral studies should include substantial experience in biophysics, protein crystallography or related fields and preference will be given to demonstrated experience in molecular biology and protein expression. Job description: The main purpose of the work is to characterize the interaction of AMPK with compounds which regulate the activity of AMPK. Biophysical and crystallographic studies, will be performed, in the structural and biophysical laboratories of Astrazeneca. Additional studies will be carried out in the laboratories of Prof. Steve Gamblin (URL). The work is part of an on-going collaboration with Prof. Steve Gamblin and Prof. Dave Carling from MRC.
