Greetings!

Here is an exciting scholarly work recently published by Over the Edge Books
called 6 'N The Morning: West Coast Hip-Hop Music 1987-1992 & the
Transformation of Mainstream Culture by Dr. Daudi Abe
<https://sites.google.com/a/seattlecentral.edu/dr-d-abe/home/seattle-hip-hop
> . With Ice-T, former NWA manager Jerry Heller, Grammy Award winner Young
MC, Grammy Nominees JJ Fad and others as contributors, this thought
provoking book critically examines issues of race, gender, class, politics,
culture, justice, great music and more through the lens of lyrical analysis,
first-person accounts from those who were there, and a broad sampling of
mainstream media coverage which at times struggled to keep up.

Among other things, 6 'N the Morning argues that:

*	This was the most crucial time in hip-hop history

*	This was one of the most important artistic/cultural periods of the
entire 20th century

*	This time and place shifted racial, cultural and political norms in
the U.S. mainstream which set the stage for the election of first
African-American president less than 20 years later

In terms of current events, the 'gangsta' imagery of the young black male
which played a central part in the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman case
comes primarily from the period covered in this book.

Dr. Abe completed his PhD at the University of Washington and has taught
Hip-Hop Theory & Culture at Seattle Central Community College for 10 years.
