*DETAILS OF THE POST*

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, based at the Heritage Motor
Centre in Gaydon near Warwick, holds the largest Archive in the world of
historic documentation and photographic material relating to the British
motor industry. Its collections include material relating to Aston Martin
collected by the company's historian, Roger Stowers, throughout his career.
The ‘Aston Martin: A Century of Craftsmanship’ project aims to tell the
‘behind-the-scenes’ history of the company. It will combine a two-year
exhibition of previously unseen archive material from the Roger Stowers
Collection, with a community project involving a volunteer group of Aston
Martin employees, past and present. For further information about the

This new post is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund with support from the
British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, Aston Martin Lagonda and the Aston
Martin Heritage Trust. The Project Assistant will help implement the
project during 2013-14. Reporting to the BMIHT Archivist, the Project
Assistant will work under the guidance of the Project Officer responsible
for the Roger Stowers Collection and also liaise with the Project Steering
Group, consisting of senior representatives from participating
organisations.

*KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*

To assist with:

1.     Project delivery from start to finish; develop and maintain a
project action plan; liaison with all relevant parties.

2.     Recruitment of volunteers; facilitate their contribution;
co-ordinate their training with external training provider.

3.     Organisation of community Open Days; arrange suitable venues; plan
and prepare publicity; attendance.

4.     Manage oral history activity including equipment provision; liaison
with interviewees; booking of venue; transcription; assist with
incorporation into the exhibition (year 2) of material gained from
community participation.

5.     Assist archive & curatorial teams with interpretation.

6.     Manage project supplier relationships to ensure activities are
delivered on time and to budget.

7.     Project budget management; obtaining estimates; arranging purchase
orders; checking invoices.

8.     Project evaluation and reporting.

9.     Carry out other duties as required by the Archivist and Project
Officer.

10.  Planning and organising additional venues for Exhibition and Virtual
Exhibition at the end of the project.

*DESIRABLE SKILLS*

1.     Experience of project implementation, ideally gained within the
heritage sector.

2.     Excellent organisational and time management skills.

3.     Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a project team.

4.     Good interpersonal skills and able to build relationships at all
levels.

5.     Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent
English grammar and attention to detail.

6.     Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office suite.

7.     Experience and knowledge of digitisation including scanning and
Photoshop.

8.     Enthusiasm for British car marques and their history, especially
Aston Martin.

9.     Experience of community engagement projects is highly desirable.
