Archive Assistant (maternity cover) - 6 month fixed term contract 

The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation dedicated to achieving extraordinary improvements in health by supporting the brightest minds. 
The Wellcome Library is one of the world's major resources for the study of medical history. We also offer a growing collection of material relating to contemporary medicine and biomedical science in society. The archives and manuscripts held at the Library cover a huge range of issues relating to illness and health and both orthodox or alternative medicine; in format they range from classical and medieval manuscripts to twenty-first century digital material. 
We're looking for an Archive Assistant to cover a period of maternity leave. Working in the Library's Archives and Manuscripts team, you will be involved across the range of the team's work. In particular, you will 
. catalogue material from within this rich collection, following Library practice and relevant standards 
. help to provide an expert enquiry and consultation service to Library users, both in person and remotely 
. supervise the Library's Rare Materials Room on a rota basis, assisting readers here as required 
. take part in the process of surveying and collecting new materials for the collection 
. help promote the collections - for instance, by writing for the Library blog 
. carry out tasks relating to the physical custody of the collections (storage, housing and preservation). 
. take on any other duties that might be required in the team. 
Candidates will have or be able to demonstrate: 
· a first degree in a relevant subject; post-graduate qualification in archive studies or equivalent would be advantageous 
· experience of working with library or archive cataloguing and collection management systems 
· commitment to team working to deliver a high quality public service 
· excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
· proven interest in the history of medicine. 
· experience of implementing archive cataloguing standards e.g. ISAD(G) and / or of using CALM archive management software is desirable but not essential 
The post is full-time, for six months initially but with the possibility of extension 
We offer a salary of c.£23,000 per annum (depending up on experience) plus excellent benefits.
