To Whom it May Concern,
I am devastated at my husbands tack of divorce from me. Some people do not have a divine moral standing about the preservation of life in general . They do not understand about parenting and I thought my ex husband did. I am devastated at his occult threats and those of his side of the family and his colleagues. Longlevity is not uppermost for all in their minds nor is peace and tranquility.
Best Regards,
Annon

New on-line forum on faith and public policy aims to prompt ‘spirited debate’
Are Muslims effective participants in governance or are they victims of policies over which they have little say? This is just one of the debates, featuring contributions from academics, think-tanks, policy-makers and the voluntary and community sectors, taking place on an innovative new on-line faith and public policy forum hosted by the University of Bristol.
At a time when the relationship between religion and public policy is highly visible and hotly contested, as recent debates over the Archbishop of Canterbury’s challenge to payday lenders and over state funding for faith schools have shown, there is a need for accessible, relevant and recent research on and analysis of these issues.
Addressing this need, Public Spirit provides a space for researchers, policymakers, politicians and practitioners from the voluntary and community sectors to access the latest research, engage in current debates and share expertise on key issues of faith and public policy.
Hosted on the forum now are two themed debates: the first addresses the question: are Muslims effective participants in governance or are they victims of policies over which they have little say?<http://www.publicspirit.org.uk/themes/muslims-and-governance-in-britain-and-evolving-relationship/> The second theme asks: what are the implications of the Coalition government’s emphasis on Christianity for a multi-faith society?<http://www.publicspirit.org.uk/themes/faith-and-the-coalition-a-new-confidence-to-do-god/> And, should faith groups be key participants in public service delivery?
In the coming months, Public Spirit will feature contributions from a wide range of authors on: the how and who of questions of religious representation; the implications of ‘muscular liberalism’ for faith and integration; the role of faith groups and values in social action; and finding the right balance between promoting equality and recognising religious difference.
Hosted by the University’s Centre for Ethnicity and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the project is led by Dr Therese O’Toole<http://www.bristol.ac.uk/spais/people/person/therese-t-otoole> working with Dr Stephen Jones<http://www.bristol.ac.uk/spais/people/person/stephen-h-jones> and the Centre’s Director, Professor Tariq Modood<http://www.bristol.ac.uk/spais/people/person/tariq-modood>. Call for Proposals and Films

The Bodily and Material Cultures of Religious Subjectivation<http://www.ucl.ac.uk/anthropology/anthropology-news/call-for-proposals-religious-subjectivation>

Program Details
Intended date of conference: 17-18 June, 2014.
Venue: UCL, Dept. of Anthropology.*
Deadline for CFP: 31 December, 2013.
Conference Convenors: Jean-Pierre Warnier and Urmila Mohan.
For further information please contact Urmila Mohan ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>).

Statement of Purpose
There is no known religious practice that does not involve bodily motions (bowing, standing, walking, fasting, feasting, etc.) and their associated emotions, nor the use of given material things (shrines, musical instruments, substances of various kinds). Both involve the sensory apparatus of touch, sight, smell, etc. Without disregarding religious discourses and creeds, the conference will focus on the cultures of religious practice with a strong emphasis on both ethnographic documentation and theoretical elaboration based on a few basic principles -- the importance of Bodily and Material Culture, and Religious Subjectivation involving technologies of the self.

Call for Proposals and Films
We welcome proposals from students, faculty and independent researchers based on ethnographic fieldwork focused on both bodily and material cultures of religious practice as part of the production of a religious subject in different areas and religious settings (Judaism, Islam, Christianity, Asiatic, African and other religions, etc.).
The papers should address theoretical issues, whatever theoretical references may be put to use, provided they articulate bodily and material cultures. We aim at establishing discussions between various academic traditions on both sides of the Atlantic and the Channel.
Short documentary films (e.g. 20 min maximum as a rule) showing the intertwinement of bodily and material cultures in religious practice are welcome. The proposals (of ca. one page) should be addressed to the convenors.
They will be assessed by the organizing committee of the conference. Ultimately, we expect to end up with an edited volume.
