mean TR-to-TR motion, mean rotation, absolute maximum displacement, number of points where TR-to-TR motion exceeds a threshold

I want to evaluate the hypothesis that two groups did not differ in movement inside the scanner. For this, I want to compute a single value for each subject from the 6 columns of the realignment parameters. Do you have any suggestion on how to do this? For example, as a range between min/max values, or general variance between values, or focus on sudden shifts? Has anybody done this before?
